Q. What is RecycleBank?
A. RecycleBank is the premier rewards and loyalty program that motivates people to recycle and to engage in environmentally virtuous activities.  RecycleBank and Allied Waste have an exclusive partnership to provide these rewards in the Greater Twin Cities area. 

Q. How do I earn RecycleBank Points?
A. Your Allied Waste Single Sort RecycleBank Recycling cart will be emptied on your normal every-other-week recycling schedule. Allied Waste recycling customers earn rewards based on their equal share of the total amount that their entire community recycles. We take the total weight and divide that number equally among the households that recycled that day. Easy!

Q. Is RecycleBank available in my community and if not, when will it be?
A. RecycleBank will be introduced to Minnesota communities throughout early 2009 and we hope to be offering it to you soon.

Q. Do I have to be an Allied Waste customer in order to receive the RecycleBank Rewards?
A. Yes. You need to be an Allied Waste residential services customer with a Single Sort Recycling cart. Additionally, some cities have recycling contracts with Allied Waste--we’ll be discussing this program with them very soon to try to get them to add this benefit for you! 

Q. How do I start receiving rewards for Recycling?
A. RecycleBank has teamed up exclusively with Allied Waste to deliver these rewards to their customers in the greater Minneapolis and St. Paul Metro Area. To become an Allied Waste and RecycleBank customer, please call your local Allied Waste office. To find your local office, please click here.

Q. How many points can I earn each month for recycling?
A. The more you recycle, the more you earn. You can earn up to 420 RecycleBank Rewards Points a month for recycling or up to a total of 5,400 RecycleBank Reward points per year from recycling.

Q. How many pounds must I recycle in order to earn points?
A. For every 1 pound recycled a participant will earn 2.5 RecycleBank Points. 

Q. How do I receive/request my rewards?
A. Activate your online account with an email and password to order your rewards via the web at www.RecycleBank.com or call 1-888-727-2978. Online rewards will be made available either instantaneously, via the website, or will be sent via email for your immediate use.
Many reward partners insist that their rewards be sent to you through the mail. It takes approximately 3-5 business days to receive your rewards after you have placed your order.

Q. What should I do if I do not receive my mailed rewards within the 3 - 5 day timeframe?
A. Email us from within your online account page, or call us at 1-888-727-2978.

Q. How many businesses are participating in the RecycleBank program?
A. There are currently hundreds of national and local businesses that participate in the program with at least 100 reward offerings available to you within your area at any given time. For examples of the kinds of rewards in the program, please visit our Rewards page at www.RecycleBank.com

Q. What should I do if I have trouble accessing my account page online?

Q. Will the rewards program change? Will the rewards change?
A. Yes. The RecycleBank Rewards program will change as we determine new and exciting reward options for you to take advantage of. Please check RecycleBank.com often for new reward opportunities.With rewards, RecycleBank is constantly adding new businesses to better serve you and rewards are subject to change. Partners can also decide to discontinue their rewards or have limited time offers.

Q. Will my RecycleBank points expire?
A. Your RecycleBank points will accrue month-to-month and year-to-year for as long as you remain in the RecycleBank program. RecycleBank points expire only if there is no activity in a member’s account for over 6 months.

Q. Do RecycleBank rewards expire?
A. Some rewards have expiration dates. Some rewards are offered on a limited time basis. This information can be found online (from your account page) or by calling Customer Care.

Q. What if I did not receive credit for recycling on a particular day?
A. You can report any missed credit by contacting us from within your online account page, or you can call us at 1-888-727-2978. We are available Monday through Friday from 8AM until 7:45 PM to answer questions and offer assistance.

Q. How does recycling help Minnesota communities?
A. In so many ways!

  1. Preserves your environment: it’s the Right thing to do!
  2. It saves you money by avoiding waste disposal fees and costs.
  3. Reduces pollution because it’s an every other week service, not weekly.
  4. Greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by the equivalent of 2.3 million cars because we recycle.
  5. Paper recycled in Minnesota saves 5, 750,000 trees from being cut down---when you recycle it helps the whole environment.

Q. What can I recycle in my Allied Waste Single Sort RecycleBank Cart?
A. Recyclable papers include:
- Newspapers, magazines, file folders, papers (all colors), fax sheets, envelopes, catalogs, small phone books and junk mail
- Corrugated cardboard, box board (such as cereal, cracker, tissue, and shoe boxes). Please flatten, bundle & cut to 3' x 3' x 6" (Please place next to or under the recycle bin.)

Recyclable container products include:
- Aluminum beverage cans and tin/steel cans
- Glass bottles and jars – three colors only (brown, green, clear)
- Plastic bottles with a neck such as soda bottles, laundry products, etc.

Please DO NOT recycle the following items:
- Food tainted items: pizza boxes, frozen food boxes, cups, coffee filters, paper towels, napkins, beverage and pop cartons, "waxy" items such as; milk cartons, waxed paper, juice boxes, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, plastic bags, silverware, and plastic tubs.
- Chemically tainted items: aerosol cans, paint cans, motor oil or gas containers.
- Bathroom/household items: razors, needles, light bulbs, plastic bags, and medicine containers.
- Foam items: cups, plates and packaging materials.
- Other items: ceramics, steel and household glasses.
- Plastic bags
- Clear plastic packaging (strawberries, etc.)

Q. What if I have more recycling than fits in my container?
A. You can request a larger container by calling your local Allied Waste office or submitting a request at www.AlliedWasteTwinCities.com

Q. What happens if I put items in my container that are not recyclable?
A. Placing items that are not recyclable in your container can negatively affect your RecycleBank account and can jeopardize the program for you and your neighbors.

Q. What can I do with my e-waste (Electronic waste)?
A. Allied Waste customers can contact their local Customer Service Representative to schedule a pickup of these item(s).

Q. How can I get my community involved in the RecycleBank program?
A. The best way would be to contact your local municipality about the RecycleBank program. Your interest will help facilitate the expansion of the RecycleBank program into your community. You can also request service and we will be sure to let you know when RecycleBank comes to your neighborhood.

Q. Are there any costs to participate?
A. In general there is no cost to participate for local businesses in the basic RecycleBank rewards program. RecycleBank generates revenue by helping cities avoid landfill disposal fees.

Q. What type of advertising will my business receive?
A. Your business will be advertised on the RecycleBank website.

Q. What are the reward denominations? Is there flexibility?
A. The RecycleBank program has standard reward denominations from which to choose. In addition, we can also customize rewards for your business. Please let us know what is best for your business.

Q. What is my business responsible for?
A. Just greet the customers, honor the rewards and help spread the word about the RecycleBank program.
